Life can get pretty dark.
Sometimes the darkness comes gradually, and other times it feels like the candle suddenly blew out.
It is to be expected. Life is a ride, it goes up and down. The ups make the downs seem more real, and the down makes the ups seem more real. They go hand in hand.
So don’t try for perfection and reaching a level where life is “perfect”. There is no perfect on the outside. You can’t ever get rid of the ‘down’. And you don’t want to. They are the essence of life.
So rather than trying to always keep the candle alight, open the blinds instead. Allow the core essence of who you are, which is peace, love and acceptance, to flow in. Your true essence, after you’ve gotten your attachment to the candle, will shine through.
No matter how light or dark the room is, there is always a pervading and persisting source of peace, which you can always tap into.
It’s not even correct to say tap into. It is more of a opening up and letting in. All our lives we’ve been blocking off the flow of this, and only in brief moments have we encountered it. When you stare at a sunset, and you suddenly become mesmerised you are allowing this source of light to come through. There are no thoughts for those 20 seconds that you look at it. Only right now, this moment exists. Just you and the sunset. Have this kind of relationship with everything you interact with.
Allow this source of light to shine through, no matter what the external world seems to be. Always let it in.
Living in the present will allow it to flow in.
